Game crashing when I try to change biomes

Post by constantcompile » Tue Oct 21, 2014 6:06 pm

Hello,

When I get about 5-8 minutes into the game (I'm just about completed my "lap" of terraforming around the planet), the game seems to crash whenever I try to change biomes.

I'm running Windows 8.1, I've verified that my drivers are up to date, and I've enrolled in the Beta to try to fix the issue, but no luck. I also reinstalled XNA and the .NET Framework.

I've attached a screenshot of the error message. Thanks so much for your help!

Hello !
Thanks for the detailed informations :)

Check your windows event log by typing Event Viewer into the start menu and look for the applications log.
If something went wrong with starting up Reus (likely) it will be logged there.
Then copy/paste the error reported !

It seems to be an issue with XNA :/

It's possible the reinstall did not work, make sure to do it again and also get the visual C++ updated

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=5555

Try to get the Framework 4.5 and also the Visual C++ 2014 (if you have not yet)

It would appear that Windows 8.1 has the .NET Framework pre-installed and it cannot be uninstalled; when I try to reinstall it, the installation refuses to continue upon detection (I must have missed this prompt last time).

I was only able to find this page for Visual C++:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2019667

It doesn't list Visual C++ 2014 anywhere; is it available through a different page?

Come Monday, I will run Reus a single time and look at the Event Viewer again, to see if there are any changes. The error message pop-up is unchanged.

As promised.

Event Viewer isn't showing any serious errors, unexpectedly, even though the crash proceeded as normal and the error message appeared identical. I've attached a full list of today's events to make sure all of the info is there (it's a short list; computer's only been on for an hour and was mostly sitting idle).

I will grab another screencap of the crash message to be extra sure it's identical.

Thanks again for your help - I've got over 90 hours logged in Reus and was hoping to earn the 60 minute challenge medals now that everything else is completed. I wonder if it isn't a problem with Windows 8.1 - my last computer died while still under warranty, and I am now using a refurbished Dell Studio XPS 8500 with a Radeon HD 7750 1GB GDDR5 Graphics Card.

Aside from the (supported- doesn't even break the warranty) graphics card, Steam, and the usual Windows Updates, it's more or less stock.

I'm not a technical expert so I can't understand the details of the issue but I can read it's coming from some kind of impossible calculation/event linked to XNA framework.

You never managed to play on this computer right ? The 90hours were on the other one ?

If it's not too much work you can try to re install windows 8 on your computer ... This is the "I don't know what I can do" step but sometimes it works :D

Whoops, apologies for the late reply.

At this point, I've decided to move on to greener pastures. Thank you for responding, though.
