Spherical planet Proof of concept:

Post by ollj » Thu May 30, 2013 1:48 pm

What an early version could look like: http://imgur.com/a/mMMXh#0

Concept: http://imgur.com/a/PR06k#0

Main differences:

- 180 tiles instead of 100
- Each tile has 3 neighboursinstead of 2. 2/3rd is a sinple factor for all "if adjacent" bonuses.
- It is possible to move around something.
- most nearby things are closer in 3d space since the extra dimension allows for shortcuts.
- You can see half the planet at any time and the center of the screen is always focused and facing the camera if you look straight down.
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peninsula of ocean or mountain may appear.
- Lines may often appear between 2 semi-round areas of effect. Where on a 2D circle a mountain next to an ocean is 1-2 tiles that wont fit a city on it, on a sphere this is a line of 1-2 tiles up to 4 tiles wide.
- A mountain or ocean of 4 tiles should desertify/wet up to 18-31 surrounding tiles.
- A wasteland tile surrounded by 2 desert or 2 wetland tiles should become a desert/wetland tile to avoid lines of wasteland.
- Its possible to raise the height of 5 or 6 tiles (to 1/3rd) by raising a corner. But that would dry all ocean around a raised corner. Oceans of a circle of 5 or 6 would make more sense for most cases anyways

Nice ideas :)
I like it, it will feel more like god game if we are playing a 3D game.

This is awesome! Here at the Abbey we have all been secretly thinking about what Reus would be like in 3D, and I think you did a wonderful job visualizing it!

Is it in near future plans? Or just a thought for potential Reus 2?

And awesome job btw!
